Easy and Filling Beef Stew Recipe
Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 1½ lb stewing beef
- 1 yellow onion
- 4 large carrots
- 3 large potatoes
- 1 medium can tomato paste
- Garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, to taste
- Bay leaves, oregano and thyme (optional)
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
Instructions
- The first thing to do is to put a pot of water on to boil with a 3 pints of water.
- As the water is heating up, dice the onions into small pieces, and fry them up in a small skillet on the side.
- Frying the onions with oil helps to extract the flavor of the onions and cut down on the tang.
- Chop the beef into cubes, and add it into the frying onions.
- Cook until the meat is browned on all sides.
- Add the onions and beef to the simmering water.
- Peel the carrots and potatoes then cut them into small cubes.
- Add the vegetables to the stew, and cover with a lid.
- Let the entire mixture cook for 15 minutes.
- Add the tomato paste, garlic powder or garlic cloves, salt, and pepper.
- Crush in a few bay leaves, and add a pinch each of dried oregano and thyme for good measure if you like.
- Let the stew cook for 1½ hours.
- Combine the flour and cold water in a cup, and stir until the flour is a watery consistency.
- Add it to the stew, and stir it in.
- Let the flour thicken the stew, and serve once thickened.
